Changes to LIRR Oyster Bay Branch service in 2023

Learn more about changes to service on the Oyster Bay Branch.

Archived page

This page describes service changes that were made in February 2023 and does not reflect subsequent service adjustments.

Oyster Bay Branch service levels will remain relatively unchanged. Diesel trains operate on the branch, and we are limited by the number of cars and locomotives that we have.

There will not be direct service to Grand Central on this branch. To reach Grand Central, Penn Station, or Atlantic Terminal, you will have to transfer at Jamaica as you do today.

Peak service

Six morning and five afternoon trains will run on the branch, the same number as today. One dual-mode train will run direct to/from Penn Station, with the remainder terminating at Hunterspoint Avenue or Jamaica.

All trains will stop at Mineola to improve service for those traveling within Nassau County. The first train of the morning will now run directly to Jamaica.

Off-peak service

Trains will run every 1-2 hours between Jamaica and Oyster Bay.

We added an earlier eastbound train on weekday mornings, departing Jamaica at 6:43 a.m. This train will not stop at Mineola.

The 8:06 a.m. eastbound weekday train, which was replaced by a shuttle bus in August, will be reinstated when the new schedule begins.
