The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) recognized 51 employees for delivering exemplary service at the 2022 New York City Transit President’s Bi-Annual Awards Ceremony held at MTA Headquarters on Wednesday, Dec. 14. The transit employees were honored for their work in safety; customer service; teamwork; leadership, and diversity and inclusion.

“I’m in awe to be in a room with the men and women who deliver outstanding service for the 5-plus million New Yorkers who are using our service,” said New York City Transit President Richard Davey. “The last seven months spending time and engaging with our New York City Transit family exemplifies their hard work and deep commitment to extraordinary service and I couldn’t be prouder of these honorees.”

“Congratulations to all of the nominees for this well-deserved honor,” said MTA Senior Advisor to the Chairman and Acting Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara. “You lead with your professional skill while bringing character, morals and value to the job that goes above and beyond. Our leadership team and New Yorkers are forever grateful.”

“This is the first time in my career that I’ve been recognized for the job I love,” said Ramiro I. Coba, General Superintendent at New York City Transit Department of Buses and recipient of the 2022 Bi-Annual Outstanding Safety Award. “I’ve learned in my 23 years of service at the MTA that our customers come first, and I’m truly honored to receive this recognition.”

“To be acknowledged for something that you just do every day is truly special,” said Michelle E. Smith, a Coney Island Train Conductor, 22 year-veteran of New York City Transit and recipient of the 2022 Bi-Annual Outstanding Customer Service Award. “I love going to work, the customers are my family away from home, and we all do a fantastic job to keep New Yorkers moving safely.”

A selection committee comprised of employees, managers, leadership and members of the MTA People Department and Workforce Relations received hundreds of applications when solicitation began in August. The next award ceremony is scheduled for the Spring of 2023.
