Grand Central Terminal Will Begin Offering Booster Shots on Monday, Dec. 27
36,581 People Vaccinated at MTA Pop-Up Sites Since Program's May 12 Launch
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced three pop-up vaccination sites for COVID-19 vaccine booster shots. The sites are offering the Moderna booster at Times Square-42nd St and Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av/74 St. The New York State-funded program provides anyone, including those visiting New York, the opportunity to get their booster shot without an appointment.
The Times Square station in Manhattan serves the and subway lines. The Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av/74 St serves the train lines.
The operation at Times Square-42nd St is running each day until Friday Dec. 31 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., except Saturday, Christmas Day, Dec. 25. The Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av/74 St site will be open from Tuesday, Dec. 21 to Thursday, Dec. 23 between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Additionally, the MTA will begin offering booster shots at Grand Central Terminal serving the and lines from Monday, Dec. 27 through Thursday, Dec. 30 between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
“With the surge in recent cases due to the Omicron variant, we want to make sure that New Yorkers have the opportunity to get their booster shots as quickly and conveniently as possible, especially with the holidays right around the corner,” said MTA Acting Chair and CEO Janno Lieber. “By placing these vaccination sites for booster shots in high traffic areas of the transit system, we hope that many will take advantage of the opportunity to further protect themselves and their loved ones.”
“As New Yorkers gather for the holiday season it is more important than ever that everyone continues to take every precaution available to protect themselves and those around them,” said MTA Chief Safety Officer Patrick Warren. “We’ve learned that the vaccine remains the most effective way to protect yourself from COVID-19 and the booster shots add significant protection on top of that. The MTA is committed to protecting its ridership and ensuring the health and safety of everyone on board.”
The MTA’s successful vaccination program has brought pop-up sites to station stops since its launch on May 12, 2021, initially starting at eight stations across New York City Transit, Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad, offering riders the one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
The MTA continues robust messaging to advise the public about availability of the sites. Digital messages continue to run on 12,000 screens at MTA stations, onboard train cars and buses to promote the site locations and hours of operation. Promotional content is being pushed to three million followers across MTA social media platforms, and wayfinding signage is posted at station pop-up locations to help guide traffic flow.
