A more accessible fare gate

We're testing out a new wide aisle fare gate to make entering and exiting subway stations easier.
Updated March 30, 2023 3:00 p.m.

We’ve installed our first-ever wide aisle fare gates at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr   and Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK  stations! These new gates have replaced the AutoGates to provide better accessibility for people traveling with mobility devices, service animals, strollers, luggage, or others who have trouble using turnstiles.

At Atlantic Av, you can find the new gate at the entrance leading directly to the Manhattan-bound   platform, near the station agent booth (R610) and LIRR waiting area. At Sutphin Blvd, the new gate is located next to the station agent booth (N605) at the main fare control area. To use the gate, tap with OMNY or dip your MetroCard. You can use your full- or Reduced-Fare OMNY payment device or MetroCard at this gate. It will not accept single-ride MetroCards.

This project is part of a pilot program exploring accessibility and passenger flow at the fare control area.

Try it out and let us know what you think!
