Subway and rail service changes: January 26-29, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! We made it to the last weekend in January. We hope you've stayed dry this week and have some fun plans for the weekend.

Here's what's happening this weekend (also available as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between 14 St and South Ferry.
  •  trains aren't running between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St.
  •  trains are running in two sections.
  •  trains aren't running at all.
  •  trains aren't running between 74 St-Broadway and 34 St-Hudson Yards.
  • Overnight  trains are running on the  line between Queens Plaza and 34 St-Herald Sq, skipping 49 St.
  •  trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq.
  •  trains are running in two sections: between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 39 Av-Dutch Kills, and between 96 St on the ​​ line and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • ​ trains aren't running between 96 St and Prospect Park.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 14 St and South Ferry in either direction from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  •  trains are running between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and 14 St all weekend, every 8 minutes days and evenings, and are running on the express track between 34 St-Penn Station and 14 St.
  • For local stops between 34 St-Penn Station and Chambers St, take  trains, which are making local stops between these stations.
  • For stops between Chambers St and South Ferry, use nearby  or  stations.

 trains, the Bronx

 trains aren't running between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St in either direction from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  •  trains are running between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and E 180 St and via the  to Eastchester-Dyre Av.
  • Free shuttle buses are running between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St.
  •  trains are running every 12 minutes days and evenings while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't stopping at Jackson Av from 4:45 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday.

  • For service to/from Jackson Av, take an Eastchester-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't stopping at Clark St in either direction from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday and 9:45 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday because of station improvement work.

  • Use nearby Borough Hall/Court St  or High St  stations.

 trains, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn 

 trains are running in two sections from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance. Transfer at 125 St to continue your trip.

 trains are running:

  • Between Woodlawn and 125 St, every 12 minutes days and evenings.
  • Between 125 St and Crown Heights-Utica Av, making local stops between 125 St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall.

Woodlawn-bound  trains are skipping 138 St-Grand Concourse from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from this station, take a 125 St-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn

 trains aren't running from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service between Eastchester-Dyre Av and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take  trains, which are running on the  line between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.
  • For service between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Bowling Green, take the .
    •  trains are running in two sections. Transfer between them at 125 St.
  • Transfer between  and  trains at 149 St-Grand Concourse.

​​​​ trains, Manhattan and Queens

From 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday, ​​ trains aren't running between 74 St-Broadway and 34 St-Hudson Yards in either direction, and ​​ trains aren't running between 39 Av-Dutch Kills and 57 St-7 Av in either direction. This is because of accessibility upgrade work at Queensboro Plaza.

  • For direct service between Manhattan and Queens, take ​​​​​​​​​ trains to/from Queens Plaza, 36 St, and Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av.
  • The LIRR will accommodate subway riders at no additional cost for service between Flushing, Mets-Willets Point, Woodside, Grand Central, and Penn Station.
  • Free shuttle buses are running along four routes:
    • Q107 between 74 St-Broadway and Queens Plaza, making all ​​ stops.
    • Q108 between 39 Av-Dutch Kills ​​and Queens Plaza.
    • Q93 between Queens Plaza, Queensboro Plaza, and Vernon Blvd-Jackson Av.
    • Q92 overnight only between Times Sq-42 St and 34 St-Hudson Yards.
  • ​​ trains are running between Flushing-Main St and 74 St-Broadway.
  • ​​ trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 39 Av-Dutch Kills.
    • Between 96 St on the ​​ line and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • 42 St Shuttle ​ trains are running overnight to provide alternate service between Times Sq-42 St and Grand Central-42 St.

​​ trains, Manhattan and Queens

From midnight to 6 a.m. Saturday, 11 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, and 11 p.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday, ​​ trains are running on the ​​ line between Queens Plaza and 34 St-Herald Sq, the last stop, skipping 49 St in both directions. This is because of accessibility upgrade work at Queensboro Plaza.

  • For service to/from Court Sq-23 St, Lexington Av/53 St, and 5 Av/53 St, take the ​​.
  • For service to/from 7 Av, take the ​​ or use the nearby 57 St-7 Av ​​​​ station.
  • For service to/from stations between 50 St and World Trade Center, take the ​​.

 trains, Manhattan

 trains aren't running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • Free L92 shuttle buses are running between 8 Av and 14 St-Union Sq.
  •  trains are running between 14 St-Union Sq and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

​ trains aren't running between 96 St and Prospect Park in either direction from 12:45 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between 96 St and 57 St-7 Av, take ​ trains, which are running on the ​ line between these stations.
    • From 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. Monday, a ​ shuttle train is running between 96 St and 57 St-7 Av.
  • For service between 57 St-7 Av and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take ​​ trains.
  • Free Q90 shuttle buses are running between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Prospect Park.
  •  trains are running between Prospect Park and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown  and overnight local  trains are running on the express track from 125 St to 168 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Queens-bound  and  trains are running on the express track from Church Av to Smith-9 Sts from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Coney Island-bound  or Church Av-bound  train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the express track from Broadway Junction to Myrtle Av from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement. 

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Jamaica Center-bound train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Far Rockaway Branch

Far Rockaway Branch trains are running to Grand Central from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday because of track switch replacement work. Transfer at Jamaica for service to Penn Station.
