Subway and rail service changes: February 9-12, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Lunar New Year! We wish you good fortune in the Year of the Dragon. 

If you're traveling to JFK Airport this weekend, note that  trains aren't stopping at Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport. Consider taking the LIRR to Jamaica; subway riders will be accommodated at no extra cost. You can also take the ​ to Howard Beach-JFK Airport or the ​ to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport. The AirTrain JFK stops at all three stations. 

And a note for late-night  riders: from 1 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. Saturday, real-time train arrival information may not be available while we upgrade software. This may affect countdown clocks in stations as well as mobile apps.  trains run every 20 minutes during these times.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
  •  trains are running on the  between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Jay St-MetroTech.
  •  trains aren't running between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke.
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  Shuttle train isn't running at all.
  •  trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts and Church Av.
  •  trains are running on the  between Canal St and DeKalb Av.

Major subway service changes

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Bowling Green and Crown Heights-Utica Av in either direction from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from stations between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take  trains.
  • For service to/from Crown Heights-Utica Av, take the , which is running to New Lots Av all weekend.
  •  trains are running between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

 trains are running on the  in both directions between W 4 St-Washington Sq and Jay St-MetroTech from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from Spring St, Canal St, and Chambers St (World Trade Center), take the .
  • For service to/from Fulton St, take the , or use nearby World Trade Center .
  • For service to/from High St, use nearby York St .

​ trains, the Bronx

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, ​ trains aren't running between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium in either direction, and downtown trains aren't stopping at 155 St. This is because of structural maintenance.

  • The free D90 shuttle bus connects Norwood-205 St to Mosholu Pkwy ​​.
  • For service between Bedford Park Blvd and 161 St-Yankee Stadium, use nearby  stations.
    • Transfer between the ​​ and the ​​ at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
  • For service to/from 155 St, take an uptown train.
  • ​​ trains are running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

 trains, Queens

​ trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke, making all ​ stops.
  • The LIRR will accommodate subway riders between Queens and Manhattan for no additional cost at Jamaica, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Woodside, Grand Central, and Penn Station.
    • If you're heading to JFK Airport, consider taking the LIRR. You can also take the ​​ to Howard Beach-JFK Airport or the ​ to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.
  •  trains are running between World Trade Center and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke and on the  to Jamaica-179 St.
    • Jamaica-bound ​​ trains aren't stopping at Briarwood or Sutphin Blvd. For service to/from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • Free B90 shuttle buses are running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Church Av or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take ​​​ trains.
  • For service to W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the ​.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av.

 Shuttle, Queens and Manhattan

The  Shuttle train isn't running between 21 St-Queensbridge and Lexington Av/63 St in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Queens Plaza and Roosevelt Island, stopping at Queensboro Plaza and 21 St-Queensbridge.
    • Take these shuttle buses for service to/from 21 St-Queensbridge and Roosevelt Island.
    • Note: Q94 and Q95 shuttle buses aren't running.
  • For service to/from 21 St-Queensbridge and Roosevelt Island, take a free shuttle bus.
  • For service to/from Lexington Av/63 St, take the . Or, use nearby Lexington Av/59 St  during the day and evening.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts and Church Av in either direction from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of urgent track repairs.

  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
    • Between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, every 20 minutes.
    • Transfer at Bedford-Nostrand Avs to continue your trip.
  • For service between Bergen St and Church Av, take the .

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

 trains are running on the  between Canal St and DeKalb Av in both directions from 12:01 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • At Canal St,  trains are stopping at the  platform.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 10 minutes while  trains share tracks in Lower Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn.

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and local  trains are running on the express track from 96 St to Times Sq-42 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train. 
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes and  trains are running every 12 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, the Bronx

Bronx-bound  and  trains are running on the express track from 3 Av-149 St to E 180 St from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 20 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

 trains, Manhattan and the Bronx

Downtown  and local  trains are running on the express track from 125 St to Grand Central-42 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.
  • During the day and evening,  trains are running every 8 minutes while  trains share tracks in Manhattan.

Manhattan-bound  trains aren't making stops between Pelham Bay Park and Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Pelham Bay Park-bound train.

​ trains, Brooklyn

Coney Island- and Church Av-bound ​ trains are running on the express track from Jay St-MetroTech to Church Av from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Brooklyn

Jamaica Center-bound  trains are running on the express track from Myrtle Av to Broadway Junction from 5:45 a.m. Saturday to 6 p.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

City Terminal Zone

Eastbound trains from Penn Station toward Jamaica aren't stopping at Woodside from 8 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday because of track maintenance.

  • For service from Penn Station to Woodside, take a Port Washington-bound train.
  • For service from Woodside to Jamaica and points east, take a train originating at Grand Central.

Far Rockaway Branch

Far Rockaway Branch trains are running to Grand Central from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday because of track switch replacement work. 

  • For service to/from Penn Station, transfer at Jamaica.
