Subway and rail service changes: December 1-4

There are service changes on the subway and Long Island Rail Road this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Happy December! We hope you're enjoying the beginning of the holiday season.

To add a little holiday cheer to your weekend, the New York Transit Museum is continuing its tradition of nostalgia rides. Vintage 1930s subway cars will run every Saturday in December from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. between 2 Av  and 145 St , making all stops on the line. All it takes to ride is an OMNY tap or MetroCard swipe. Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between Jay St-MetroTech and Utica Av in Brooklyn, while uptown  trains are running on the  line from Jay St-Metro Tech to West 4 St-Washington Sq.
  •  trains aren't running at all.
  • ​ trains aren't running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205 St.
  •  ​​trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  trains aren't running between Crescent St and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer.
  •  trains and overnight  local trains are running on the  line between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Canal St.
  • Overnight  trains aren't running between Whitehall St and 59 St.

Major service changes

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Jay St-MetroTech and Utica Av from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  •  trains are running in two sections, making local stops:
    • Between Inwood-207 St and Jay St-MetroTech.
    • Between Utica Av and Ozone Park/Far Rockaway.
  • For service between Jay St-MetroTech and Utica Av, take a free shuttle bus. These are running along two routes:
    • Local between Jay St-MetroTech and Utica Av, making all stops.
    • Express between Jay St-MetroTech and Utica Av, stopping at Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts and Nostrand Av.
  • If you're traveling to JFK Airport, take the  to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.

Uptown  trains are running on the  line from Jay St-Metro Tech to West 4 St-Washington Sq from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • For service to High St, use the nearby York St .
  • For service to Fulton St, transfer at Delancey St-Essex St  for the downtown .
  • For service to Chambers St/World Trade Center, Canal St and Spring St, transfer at West 4 St-Washington Sq for the  or downtown .  

 trains aren't running at all Saturday and Sunday because of signal modernization work.

 trains, Manhattan and the Bronx

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,  trains aren't running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Norwood-205 St in either direction, and uptown trains aren't stopping at 155 St. This is because of structural maintenance work.

  • For service to/from 155 St, take a downtown ​ train.
  • For service between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Bedford Park Blvd, take the .
  • Norwood-205 St is connected to Mosholu Pkwy  by a free D90 shuttle bus. Transfer between the  and the  at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.

 trains, Brooklyn

​ trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For direct service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av, take ​​ trains.

​​ trains, Brooklyn and Queens

​​ trains aren't running between Crescent St and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • Free J90 shuttle buses are running between Crescent St and 121 St, connecting to Jamaica-Van Wyck ​​. Look for signs outside your station for walking directions to the shuttle bus stop.
  • For service to/from Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport and Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer, take the ​​.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

​ trains and overnight ​ local trains are running on the ​ line between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Canal St because of equipment installation.

  •  changes are in effect from 5:45 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
  •  changes are in effect overnight on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • Bay Ridge-bound ​ trains and Coney Island-bound ​ local trains are skipping DeKalb Av. Take the ​ or a Manhattan-bound ​​ train instead.
  • For Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall, use nearby  stations.
  • For Jay St-MetroTech and Court St, use Borough Hall .
  • Reminder: At Canal St, rerouted ​​ trains stop at the ​ platform.

Overnight Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, ​ trains aren't running between Whitehall St and and 59 St because of equipment installation.

  •  trains are running between Bay Ridge-95 St and 59 St.

Other service changes

 trains, Manhattan and the Bronx

Uptown  and  trains are running on the express track from 72 St to 96 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station improvements.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

Downtown ​​ trains are running on the express track from Gun Hill Rd to E 180 St from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

 trains, Brooklyn

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday: 

  • Flatbush Av-bound  trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College.
  • New Lots Av-bound  and Utica Av/New Lots Av-bound  trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to Crown Heights-Utica Av.

This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  •  trains are running every 12 minutes days and evenings, and every 15 minutes Sunday morning until 10 a.m., because  trains are sharing tracks in Brooklyn.

 trains, Queens

Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the express track from Mets-Willets Point to 74 St-Broadway from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of station improvements.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Flushing-bound train.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes from 6:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. Sunday because of track work.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Overnight on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday:

  • Coney Island-bound  trains are running on the express track from Grand St to 36 St.
  • Coney Island-bound  trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 59 St. 

This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

Uptown  trains and overnight uptown  local trains are running on the express track between Canal St and 34 St-Herald Sq.

  •  changes are in effect from 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m Saturday and Sunday.
  •  changes are in effect overnight on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

Bay Ridge-bound ​ trains are running on the express track from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 59 St from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Far Rockaway Branch

Far Rockaway Branch trains will run to Grand Central between 9:30 a.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday because of track work near Penn Station. Transfer at Jamaica for service to Penn Station.
