The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today was honored to welcome President Joseph R. Biden Jr., joined by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, and New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, to the MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) West Side Yard located at Hudson Yards.

The event was held in the maintenance shop of the LIRR West Side Yard. Dozens of LIRR employees from multiple departments were involved in preparing for the President’s visit. Standing alongside LIRR employees and Amtrak personnel, President Biden announced $1.2 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s new National Infrastructure Project Assistance discretionary grant program (MEGA) for nine projects across the country, including $292 million to complete a critical early phase of the Hudson Tunnel Project.
