Pets are welcome on the subway, bus, Long Island Rail Road, and Metro-North Railroad, but each has different policies.
Taking your pet on the subway or bus
On the subway or bus, your pet must be in a bag or other container and carried in a way that doesn't annoy other riders.
Taking your pet on MTA railroads
Long Island Rail Road
On the Long Island Rail Road, your pet must be in a container that can fit on your lap and carried in a way that doesn't annoy other riders.
Metro-North Railroad
On Metro-North Railroad, your pet must be carried in a kennel or similar container or securely controlled on a leash throughout the journey. Your pet must not be offensive to other riders.
Service animals
Different policies apply to service animals than to pets.
