Walkway Over the Hudson Providing Free Shuttle Service From Metro-North's Poughkeepsie Station
MTA Metro-North Railroad is partnering with Walkway Over the Hudson to offer a special weekend getaway service to the Hudson Valley for this year’s Mayfest Farmers and Makers Market. Mayfest is hosted by Walkway Over the Hudson and is held throughout the Hudson Valley Rail Trail and the Walkway’s Ulster Welcome Center Plaza in Highland, NY. The festival is a showcase of the Hudson Valley’s local restaurants, arts and goods.
To welcome as many New Yorkers as possible, Metro-North and Walkway Over the Hudson are providing an easy way to get to Mayfest with free shuttle service to and from Metro-North's Poughkeepsie station. Quality Bus will run the free shuttle service between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. during Mayfest.
“As the region reopens we need to support our local businesses,” said Catherine Rinaldi, President of Metro-North Railroad. “Metro-North provides an easy way to get away for the day, enjoy not only the great views of the Hudson Valley, but the many foods and drinks made locally.”
The opening ceremony of Mayfest will be held on Saturday May, 8 at 12:30 p.m. and the festival itself will run through the weekend, ending on Sunday, May 9. In honor of Mother’s Day all moms attending Mayfest on Sunday will receive a complimentary flower courtesy of Tompkins Mahopac Bank. General admission to Mayfest is free; for those looking to taste test, testing area tickets are $25 and available at https://walkway.org/mayfest.
Metro-North's Poughkeepsie station is the terminus station on the Hudson Line. Metro-North riders can transfer to Poughkeepsie-bound trains at Harlem-125 St. Customers traveling from New York City can take a Hudson Line train out of Grand Central Terminal. Wearing masks is required on all trains and at stations. Train crews can provide masks to any customer who needs one.
To welcome riders back and offer fun getaways to the Hudson Valley, and other areas throughout the MTA’s service region, the Authority launched a new dedicated webpage for day trips.
