Subway and rail service changes: February 2-5, 2024

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! We've got great news for  riders: the first of our new R211T open-gangway trains entered service on the  yesterday. We hope you enjoy a look at the future of transportation!

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a handy map):

  •  trains aren't running between Wakefield-241 St and Gun Hill Rd or between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College.
  •  trains aren't running at all.
  •  trains aren't running between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
  •  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke.
  •  trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •  Shuttle trains aren't running at all.
  •  trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts and Church Av and are running in two sections.
  •  and overnight local ​ trains are running on the ​ between Canal St and DeKalb Av.
  • Overnight  trains aren't running between between Whitehall St and 59 St.

Major subway service changes

 trains, the Bronx

 trains aren't running between Wakefield-241 St and Gun Hill Rd from 3:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday because of track replacement work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Wakefield-241 St and Gun Hill Rd.
  •  trains are running from Gun Hill Rd to Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and on the ​ from Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College to Crown Heights-Utica Av.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • Free B96 shuttle buses are running between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College, stopping at all  stops and the Nostrand Av  station.
  •  trains are running from the Bronx to Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and on the  from Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College to Crown Heights-Utica Av.

Manhattan-bound  and  trains are running on the express track from Crown Heights-Utica Av to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Utica Av-bound  or New Lots Av-bound  train.

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

 trains aren't running from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service between 135 St and Crown Heights-Utica Av, take the 
    •  trains make  stops between 135 St and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and are running on the  between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and Crown Heights-Utica Av.
    • For service to/from 145 St, take M7 or M102 buses days and evenings or free shuttle buses overnight and transfer to  trains at 135 St.
  • For service between Crown Heights-Utica Av and New Lots Av, take the , which is running on the  between these stations.

​ trains, the Bronx

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, ​ trains aren't running between Norwood-205 St and 161 St-Yankee Stadium in either direction, and downtown trains aren't stopping at 155 St. This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between Bedford Park Blvd and 161 St-Yankee Stadium, use nearby  stations.
  • For service to/from 155 St, take an uptown train.
  • Norwood-205 St is connected by a free D90 shuttle bus to Mosholu Pkwy ​.
  • Transfer between the ​ and the ​ at 161 St-Yankee Stadium.
  • ​​ trains are running between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

 trains, Manhattan and Queens

 63 St Shuttle trains aren't running and Jamaica-bound  trains are running on the  via 63 St from W 4 St-Washington Sq to Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • Q94 and Q95 shuttle buses aren't running. Overnight only, free shuttle buses are running between 21 St-Queensbridge and Court Sq-23 St, stopping at Queens Plaza.
  • For service to Manhattan from Roosevelt Island and 21 St-Queensbridge, take a Jamaica-bound train.
  • For downtown service:
    • From Lexington Av/63 St, take the .
    • From 57 St, use the nearby 57 St-7 Av  or 5 Av/53 St  stations.
  • For uptown service:
    • To/from 57 St, take the  at nearby 7 Av.
    • To/from 5 Av/53 St, take  trains at nearby 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr.
    • On 8 Av, take  trains. Note: Uptown  and overnight local  trains are running on the express track from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle. For uptown service to/from bypassed stations, transfer to a downtown train.
  • Jamaica-bound  trains are running from World Trade Center to Jamaica-179 St:
    • On the  from W 4 St-Washington Sq to Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av via 63 St.
    • On the  from Kew Gardens-Union Tpke to Jamaica-179 St, bypassing Briarwood and Sutphin Blvd.
  • World Trade Center-bound  trains are running from Jamaica-179 St to World Trade Center, on the  from Jamaica-179 St to Kew Gardens-Union Tpke.
  • Jamaica-bound  trains are running from Brooklyn to Jamaica-179 St via 63 St, bypassing Briarwood and Sutphin Blvd.
  • Brooklyn-bound  trains are running from Jamaica-179 St to Brooklyn, on the  via 53 St from Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av to 5 Av/53 St.

 trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • Free shuttle buses are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Kew Gardens-Union Tpke, making all  stops.
  • The LIRR will accommodate subway riders between Queens and Manhattan for no additional cost at Jamaica, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Woodside, Grand Central, and Penn Station.
    • If you're heading to JFK Airport, consider taking the LIRR. You can also take the ​ to Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
  • Jamaica-bound  trains aren't stopping at Briarwood or Sutphin Blvd.
    • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound  or Brooklyn-bound  train.

 trains, Brooklyn

 trains aren't running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av in either direction from 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization work.

  • Free B90 shuttle buses are running between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Church Av or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take ​​​ trains.
  • For service to W 8 St-NY Aquarium, take the ​.
  •  trains are running between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av.

Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the express track from Church Av to Smith-9th Sts.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Church Av-bound train.

 trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts and Church Av in either direction from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of urgent track repairs.

  •  trains are running in two sections:
    • Between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
    • Between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, every 20 minutes.
    • Transfer at Bedford-Nostrand Avs to continue your trip.
  • For service between Bergen St and Church Av, take the .

 trains, Manhattan and Brooklyn

 trains and overnight local  trains are running on the  between Canal St and DeKalb Av in both directions from 11:15 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of preventive maintenance.

  • For service to/from City Hall, Cortlandt St, Rector St, and Whitehall St, use nearby  stations.
  • For service to/from Court St and Jay St-MetroTech, use Borough Hall .
  • Note: At Canal St,  and overnight local  trains stop at the  platform.

Overnight from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday, 11:45 p.m. Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday, an 11:45 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday, ​​​​ trains aren't running between Whitehall St and 59 St, Brooklyn because of equipment installation.

  • ​​​ trains are running between 59 St, Brooklyn and Bay Ridge-95 St.
  • For service to/from Whitehall St, Court St, and Jay St-MetroTech, use nearby  stations.
  • For service to/from DeKalb Av or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, take  trains.
  • For service to/from Union St, 4 Av-9 St, Prospect Av, 25 St, and 36 St, take local  trains.
  • For service to/from 45 St and 53 St, take the .

Other subway service changes

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  and overnight local  trains are running on the express track from 96 St to 72 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train. 

 trains, Queens

Manhattan-bound  trains are running on the express track from Mets-Willets Point to 74 St-Broadway from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3:30 a.m. Monday because of station improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Queens-bound train.
  •  trains are running every 8 minutes from 6:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

 trains, Manhattan

Uptown ​ and overnight local ​ trains are running on the express track from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of electrical improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

 trains, Manhattan

Downtown  trains are running on the express track from 34 St-Herald Sq to W 4 St-Washington Sq from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of accessibility improvement work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Far Rockaway Branch

Far Rockaway Branch trains are running to Grand Central from 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday because of track switch replacement work. Transfer at Jamaica for service to Penn Station.
