How to set up real-time elevator and escalator alerts

Get real-time alerts for MTA elevators and escalators.
Updated April 30, 2024 10:00 a.m.

We have exciting news for users of our real-time email and text alerts: Now, you can sign up to receive notices about elevator and escalator outages throughout our system.

This new and improved platform lets you choose the days and times you would like to receive alerts for elevator and escalators, as well as a daily digest that summarizes outages at the beginning of your alert window.

You can set as many alerts as you want, but for best results, you should create them around the short windows when you typically travel. For example, you can create different alerts for stations you use during your morning and evening commute.

How it works

If you do not have an account, follow these steps:

  1. Sign up for an account.
  2. Provide an email address (and a phone number if you wish to receive SMS alerts).
  3. Check for a confirmation email. (If you do not receive one, check your spam folder.)
  4. Follow the instructions in the email to set up your alerts.

If you are setting up alerts for stations with multiple lines, you will see a longer drop-down menu with multiple options. Check each option until you find the elevators or escalators you need alerts for. We are working toward a simpler way to organize the data for these complexes, and we appreciate your patience as we make those improvements.

If you have already signed up for email and text alerts, you can add elevator and escalator alerts. Follow these steps:

  1. Find the last alert you received via email and click the “update your preferences” link at the bottom of the email.
  2. You will be taken to your preference center. From there, click the "Alerts" tab and follow the prompts for elevators and escalators.
